5th (British Columbia) Field Artillery Regiment Museum and Archives
The 5th (BC) Artillery Regiment Museum commemorates the Regiment’s role in the coastal defence of Victoria dating back to 1843 and of the role of coastal artillery on the Canadian Pacific Coast. In 1956, during the Cold War and the development of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, the role of coastal artillery became redundant and the Regiment’s role converted to field artillery and exhibits about the role played by our soldiers on foreign and domestic operations since the Second World War are also highlighted.

Western Museum of the Armed Forces
‘Preserving the Past for the Future’ is the inherent mission statement of any museum, large or small, but part of the Future is stepping away from the Past’s model of lifeless objects locked away in dusty showcases and on into an atmosphere in which the public is engaged, and sees equipment in the context in which it was used. Currently the Museum is primarily focused on bringing exhibits to where the people are – to airshows, veterans events, collector’s events, national commemorations and national celebrations – vs. the traditional model of trying to get the people to come to us.
