United States of America – Silver Star
The Silver Star Medal is the United States Armed Forces’ third-highest military decoration for valor in combat. The Silver Star Medal is awarded primarily to members of the United States Armed Forces for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States.
When the medal is awarded by the Army, Air Force, or Space Force for acts of valor in combat, the « V » device is authorized for wear on the medal. When the medal is awarded by the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard for acts of valor or meritorious service in combat, the Combat « V » is authorized for wear on the medal.
Officers from the other Uniformed Services of the United States are eligible to receive this award, as are foreign soldiers who have served with or alongside a service branch of the United States Armed Forces.
Warrant Officer Class II Gerard Hughes (Silver) Lee
Warrant Officer Two Gerard Hughes Lee, Canadian Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving in support of the U.S. SEVENTH Army during World War II. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the Canadian Army.
